When does the event take place
The event takes place at Kronplatz in South Tyrol, Italy, from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th July 2020. #hackathon #hackthealps
Is there a registration deadline for the hackathon?
The registration for participants will start on February 22nd and will close on March 31
How do I get to the location?
The event takes place at Restaurant Kron on Kronplatz in South Tyrol, Italy.
When you take the train: The nearest train station is “Brunico Bruneck” (check this website on how you get to this train station). From there (“Brunico, Stazione”) busses drive to “Reischach (Bruneck), Kronplatz” (see details here). From there, the adventure HackTheAlps begins: a cableway brings you to the top of the mountain 🙂
When you take your car: Type “Via Funivia 2/B 39031 Brunico” in your navigation system and your journey begins. You can directly park at the cableway station. From there, the adventure HackTheAlps begins: a cableway brings you to the top of the mountain 🙂
When you take the plane: The nearest airport is Innsbruck (AT) or Verona (IT). From there you can use the train or rent a car to get to the location.
In August we setup a Slack channel for the participants of the hackathon, so that you can organize car pooling.
Please consider: Every participant takes care of his arrival from home to the location – transport to location is not organized, not provided and not paid. Please be aware of that and organize in advance!
What should I do there?
You will create in prototype during a 36 hours non-stop hacking marathon. Exciting challenges are waiting for you.
What do I need to bring as a participant to the hackathon?
Besides the usual:
- laptop, battery loader, any other device you may need for development
- sleeping bag
- clothes and toiletry bag
don’t forget to bring 🙂
- software development/design skills and of course a lot of ideas, innovational and team spirit
What are the requirements to participate?
You have to be at least 18 years old at the time of the event.
Please wait before you book your transportation until you get the final confirmation. We want to make sure that everyone who attends is able to hack in a team, share knowledge and ideas.
How can I find my team members?
Teams are not build by the HackTheAlps team. You can form your team with your collegues or find your team members in advance by posting on our facebook-site or simply on the event. A team should consist of 2 to 4 (max) participants. If you already have a team, perfect! You don’t have a team? No problem, we will send out invitations to a Slack channel and a facebook group so you can find your mates.
Do I still own my code by participating to the challenges? What about the intellectual property and my data?
You as a team submit your code, a short project description, your pitch, and the names (or nicknames) of the team members only for the purpose of evaluation and awarding. You don’t transfer any rights of your work to us automatically.
Is it allowed to use any API/SDK for the main challenge?
You can use every API/ SDK publicly available. You are not allowed to use any internal SDK/ API with hidden features not publicly published.
Can company employees of platin sponsors participate to their own companies challenge?
It is not allowed as employee of a company which is platin sponsor to participate on their own companies challenge. It would be to much advantage compared to other participants. We hope for your understanding.
How should I organize the project work?
You can self-organize your project work during the hackathon. You can take a break or work non-stop as you want. Please bring your sleeping bag. We will provide a dormitory where you can sleep and relax. Of course we’ll provide showers for your personal hygiene.
Can I bring and pitch an already existing idea or project of my startup?
For participants to the hackathon:
The idea of the hackathon is to create new innovations. You, as a participant of the hackathon, are not allowed to use any idea you worked already on before. If you don’t have any idea, the challenges and other team mates will inspire you. Be aware, if you use code already written in advance or related to an already existing company, we might ask you to leave the event and exclude you from the challenges. Any team who has one or more ideas and builds a prototype during the hackathon can pitch it to the crowd. Supporters will provide challenges and their APIs.
For platin supporters:
If you are a platin supporter you can present your challenge and the goal to the hackers. For example: do you want to know what hackers can create using your API?
How much does it cost?
You don’t need to pay any registration fee as a participant to the challenges. We provide free meals and drinks during the event. We have 2-3 showers that you can use and a place to sleep (in a room on the flow with carpet).
Please be aware that you need to organize and pay your transport to the location by yourself (except the lift card to the top of the mountain)
